Scrapped notes worth Rs 7.87 lakh were found in the basement of an apartment on Laskar Road in Adugodi on Thursday.
Police said that the management members of Madhuban apartment found the cash in Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations, stashed in a plastic bag in the basement.
A senior police officer said that the cash had been seized and they were questioning the apartment residents and security staff to trace the source of the money.
"It is suspected that someone from outside left the cash and fled. CCTV footage is also being examined," the officer said. The cash has been handed over the custody of the local court.
