The city police have detained Patrick, a relative of Dominic Selvaraj Roy, for questioning in connection with the Rs 1.37-crore heist.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West)MNAnucheth told DH that Patrick was picked up from Chennai on the basis of the information provided by Roy.
Roy had told the police that he had given Rs 10 lakh to Patrick after the heist. The police are yet to recover the money from Patrick.
"We are questioning Patrick about why Roy gave him that much money," the DCP said. Meanwhile, the city police have written to Secure Transit, a security agency that had hired Roy, to ascertain whether it had conducted a background verification and obtained police clearance certificate for all its drivers.
Roy, a Secure Transit driver, and a resident of Lingarajapuram, sped away with a vehicle transporting Rs 1.37 crore on November 23.Roy's wife Evelyn surrendered before the police on November 28 and Rs 79.08 lakh was recovered from her.Police arrested Roy the next day.
