Retired DySP Babu Noronha, the prime suspect in the Rs 83-lakh robbery case, has been remanded in judicial custody till December 13.

The JPNagar police produced Noronha before the magistrate on Wednesday night. Another suspect Lohith, Noronah's informant, was remanded in police custody for 10 days, said a senior police officer.

"We are interrogating Lohith to ascertain the identity of the people who received Rs 83 lakh. Four other suspects in the case are at large and the police will arrest them soon," he said.

There was high drama at the police station on Wednesday night after Noronha was arrested. Noronha reportedly tore his clothes and threatened policemen.

He snatched the mobile phone of a sub-inspector and went into the toilet where he called his friend, a member of State Human Rights Commission (SHRC). Noronha claimed that the JPNagar police had illegally detained him.

"A team from the SHRC came to the police station to ascertain whether the JPNagar police had illegally detained Noronha.

"They, however, returned after the inspector narrated the whole episode," said the officer.
