A 65-year-old security guard who attempted to prevent theft at a temple, was bludgeoned to death by the thieves at Male Mahadeshwara temple in Nagarabhavi in the early hours of Wednesday.
The police identified the deceased as Raju Gowda, a resident of Chandra Layout. Gowda was working as a security guard at the temple for over a few months.
The incident came to light on Wednesday morning, when the priest came to the temple and found Gowda lying in a pool of blood. He informed the neighbours and the
Jnanabharathi police.
Police said that a few miscreants gained entry into the temple to steal the hundi (donation box). Gowda attempted to prevent the theft. However, the thieves overpowered Gowda and bludgeoned him to death before fleeing the spot. The intruders have not taken away anything from the temple except the digital video recording system, said the police.
