The exclusion of Kannada for writing the NEET has triggered a political row. While a section of the Karnataka BJP leaders have accused the state government of failing to convince the Union Health ministry, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said that the state will write a 'protest letter' to the Centre for not conducting NEET in Kannada.
Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ananth Kumar defended the Centre's move. "Karnataka government initially agreed to conduct the examination in English. Three days ago, it wrote a letter proposing inclusion of Kannada. But it was too late by then," he told reporters in Delhi.
Speaking to journalists at Mandakalli Airport near Mysuru, Siddaramaiah said that he has directed chief secretary Subhash Chandra Khuntia to write to Centre. He also urged Minister for Medical Education Sharanprakash Patil to meet the authorities concerned and hold discussions in this regard.
Meanwhile, Union Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, a Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka, took up the issue with the Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi on Friday.
