State Janata Dal (Secular) president and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Thursday said a person who had received kickbacks from contractors after the state government released funds for the Yetttinahole drinking water project paid the same money to the Congress high command to become a minister.

He was speaking at a rally held as part of the national farmers' day organised by the Akhand Karnataka Raita Sangha headed by former Union minister Babagowda Patil at Chikbagewadi village in Bailhongal taluk.

Kumaraswamy said the Congress government headed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, which was showing keen interest in implementing the Yettinahole project was not exhibiting the same zeal in waiving farmers' loans.

Kumaraswamy expressed confidence of coming back to power after the next Assembly elections. He said that he would waive farm loans within 24 hours and, he if fails to do so he would resign immediately.

In case the JD(S) fails to come to power on its own, it would urge the people for a fresh mandate, Kumaraswamy added.
