Home Minister GParameshwara on Friday said the Criminal InvestigationDepartment (CID) will only conduct a preliminary enquiry into the HYMeti episode and there will be no investigation as no complaint has been filed in any police station.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, two days after Meti resigned as Excise minister following a CD purportedly showing him in a sexual act with a woman became public, Parameshwara said further course of action will be decided after the CIDsubmits its preliminary report.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had referred the entire issue to the CID after Meti claimed that the sex CD was a conspiracy against him and that he was trapped in the act. Parameshwara said he had no information on the woman in the CD and the former gunman of Meti Subhash Mughalkhod going missing.
Parameshwara, who is also the KPCCpresident, said he has briefed the high command about the Meti episode and is awaiting further instruction.
To a query that suspended state government officials T N Chikkarayappa and S C Jayachandra had releaved names of two ministers to the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax (I-T) Department, Parameshwara said, "I have read such reports in the media. I do not know whose names have been mentioned. As KPCCpresident, I am as curious as you to know the names."
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said he is not planning to immediately fill up the Cabinet berth that has fallen vacant after Meti's resignation. "Nobody has approached me with an application seeking the Cabinet berth. Has anybody approached you (media)?" he asked, replying to a question by reporters on lobbying by a section of ruling party MLAs to become minister.
He described reports in a section of media as figment of imagination that the Centre has been targeting the Congress government in Karnataka with the help of I-T department.
"I-T raids are happening in all the states, including Karnataka. It is not proper to say that all those who are trapped in the raids are close to me. In fact, all the six-and-a-half crore people of the state are close to me...Why aren't they (those who are trapped) close to B S Yeddyurappa?" he asked.
