Bangalore Literature Festival has announced the names of writers who are participating in this year's event to be held on December 17 and 18 at Hotel Royal Orchid.

The festival will be inaugurated by novelists Shashi Deshpande, Sudha Murty and Kannada poet K V Thirumalesh. More than 100 writers and eminent persons from various fields, such as Bezwada Wilson, Kanhaiya Kumar, Ramya, Gurcharan Das, Arup Kumar Dutta, Sanjeev Sanyal, Vivek Shanbhag, Omkar Goswami, Prathibha Nandakumar and Margaret Alva, will take part.

Parliamentarian and former diplomat Shashi Tharoor will discuss about his latest book Inglorious Empire. Sudha Murty will engage writer Chetan Bhagat in a conversation about what women want. Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha will also make an appearance at the festival on Sunday.

Jahnavi Barua, Preeti Shenoy, Anuja Chauhan, Ryan Lobo, Raghu Karnad and Niret Alva are among the city authors who will take part in the festival. "This year, the festival is completely out of the box. The ideologies of most speakers are passionate. They occupy the intellectual space on their own terms. The 2016 edition of Bangalore Literature Festival belongs to the quiet thinkers in actors, writers, artistes and readers," festival director Shinie Antony said.

The festival has also lined up interesting music and dance performances, including ballets by The Lewis Foundation of Classical Ballet, a blues and folk concert by Guru Rewben Mashangva, who will perform a tribute to Nobel literature laureate Bob Dylan and an evening performance by poet, actor and musician Piyush Mishra.
