Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS)officer L Bheema Naik, who was arrested along with his personal driver Mohammed in Kalaburagi on Sunday, was produced before the Second Additional Civil Judge at Maddur on Monday evening.

The state government suspended him for dereliction of duty.

Naik, special land acquisition officer, Bengaluru, and Mohammed were brought to Maddur around 7.30 am and taken to a farmhouse on the outskirts of Somanahalli. They were interrogated by Ida Martin Marbanaing, Superintendent of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and Mandya SP C H Sudheer Kumar Reddy for over six hours.

Thereafter, their medical examination was conducted by Dr Boregowda at the taluk government hospital in Maddur.

In the evening, the two men were produced before the judge, P M Prakash, at his residence as the court was closed by then. The judge remanded him in the CID custody for five days.
The officer's advocate Krishna Naik is consulting local lawyers to file his bail application.

Speaking to journalists later, Naik claimed he was innocent and that truth would prevail in the investigation.

The two men were arrested for abetting the suicide of K C Ramesh Gowda, a resident of Kadukothanahalli in Maddur taluk, who was Naik's official driver. Gowda ended his life in a lodge in Maddur on December 6 and left behind a 12-page handwritten note, blaming Naik and Mohammad for his death.

Gowda stated that there was a threat to his life as he was aware of the illegalities reportedly committed by the officer, especially how he helped mining baron and BJP leader G Janardhana Reddy launder Rs 125 crore for 20% commission for his daughter's wedding last month.

Gowda also listed the assets reportedly amassed by Naik and how he purportedly bribed officials and politicians to close cases of corruption against him. The note also named a recently retired judge of the Supreme Court.
