High drama prevailed when a 24-year-old person threatened to jump off a tree, near Forum Mall in Koramangala on Wednesday evening.
According to the police, Somashekara, a native of Raghunathana Halli in Raichur, climbed the tree and threatened to jump to death. The passersby alerted the Koramangala police who rushed to the spot along with the Fire and Emergency service personnel.
The public said that Somashekara had climbed the tree near Forum Mall at around 7 pm and was sitting on one of the branches. They asked him to get down, but he did not respond. The police and Fire personnel also asked him to climb down, but in vain. Around 8 pm, one of the Fire personnel climbed the tree and attempted to nab Somashekar, when he jumped off. The public and police, who where standing beneath the tree, held on to him, said the police.
Somashekara escaped without injuries and was taken to Koramangala police station. When enquired, he told the police that he had fought with his mother over personal issues and had left home. He came to the city around four days ago. He slept on footpaths and begged for food.
He claimed that he was disturbed as he had fought with his mother and wanted to punish himself by committing suicide. Fortunately, he had not climbed to the top of the tree.
His parents and family members have been contacted and they will come to the city on Thursday, added the police.
