Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has introduced an online payment system to top up smart cards.

U A Vasanth Rao, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), BMRCL, told DH that the process of accepting debit and credit cards to recharge smart cards is in the final stages. "The proposal took some time as various payment modes had to be integrated," he said, adding that the facility, to be functional in a couple of days, would be available in all Metro stations.

Rao, however, said the online payment facilities are only to recharge smart cards and not to buy tickets (tokens).

BMRCL's online payment system will come as a huge relief for passengers, especially after demonetisation, as there is an acute shortage of small denomination notes.
