The family of an 82-year-old woman has claimed that negligence on the part of Fortis Hospitals, Rajajinagar, claimed her life.
The family claimed that her treatment was delayed as the hospital refused to accept the old currency.
Jayamma was rushed to Fortis Hospital, Rajajinagar, after she complained of chest pain at 9.45 pm on November 13. Upon examination, the hospital staff found that she needed cardiac care and was referred to Fortis Hospital on Cunningham Road. The patient's family claimed that as the hospital did not accept demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, they were unable to clear the bills and shift her to another hospital.
In a statement, the hospital said the patient's attendants choose to go to another
hospital.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that private hospitals should not accept old denominations. However, the bill was settled through credit card at 10.45 pm. Without further delay, the patient was shifted to another hospital at 10:59 pm," the statement said.
