Police have arrested an Uber cab driver who reportedly attempted to kidnap a 15-year-old boy to demand ransom from his father. The suspect is Tabrez, 30, a resident of Bagalur, near Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
The boy had booked the cab on Saturday to attend a tuition class. But the driver took a different route and reportedly called up the boy's father and demanded ransom for his safe release. The suspect, however, got cold feet and abandoned the plan. He dropped the boy at Whitefield and sped off.
But DCP(Southeast)Dr Boralingaiah, who led the team that tracked down the driver, suspects something amiss in the whole incident. "It's not a typical kidnap case. The driver insists that he neither kidnapped the boy nor made any ransom call. We are questioning him," he said.
Police will also question the boy to find out what exactly happened during the cab ride.
