A 55-year-old woman was stabbed to death, while her husband and daughter-in-law sustained injuries when their neighbour attacked them over a petty issue. The incident took place in Srinivas Nagar near Kithagnuru in Avalahalli near KR Puram on Wednesday noon.
The deceased has been identified as Shakunthalamma. Her husband Marappa and daughter-in-law Geetha sustained injuries in the attack. Police said Ramesh, who stabbed the woman to death and injured two others, has been arrested. Ramesh was Marappa's neighbour and both were realtors.
Police said trouble had been brewing between the two over the issue of widening a narrow lane. Police added that the approach road to Ramesh's house was narrow and he hadto pass by Marappa's house to reach home. Police said that it was Ramesh's idea to widen the road so as to gain access to his residence but this was opposed by Marappa as it meant his compound wall would get damaged. The two had been for long fighting on the issue and the neighbours, on many occasions, had to step in to quell the feud.
Police stated that on Wednesday afternoon, while passing by Marappa's house, Ramesh hurled abuses, leading to a heated argument. Police added that in a fit of rage, Ramesh brought a knife from his house and attacked Marappa who collapsed bleeding profusely.
Police said in order to save her husband from being stabbed, Shakuntalamma came in between and Ramesh stabbed her repeatedly. He also assaulted Geetha, added the police. On raising an alarm, neighbours and passersby rushed to Marappas house and alerted Avalahalli police who arrested Ramesh before he could flee. They shifted the three injured family members to a nearby private hospital where Shakunthalamma was declared brought dead. Marappa and Geetha are in stable condition, said a senior police officer.
