The executive committee of the Bengaluru City unit of the BJP on Monday passed a resolution opposing the construction of steel flyover from Chalukya Circle to Hebbal, stating that it was a waste of public money.

The meeting attended by city unit president PNSadashiva, city legislators RAshoka, S Suresh Kumar, Aravind Limbavali, Ramachandra Gowda and Lehar Singh among others resolved that the government had not held any public consultation and gone ahead with the project giving rise to suspicion that it had succumbed to the contractors' lobby.

The government also had no answer to the high cost escalation of the project from the initial Rs 1,350 crore to Rs 1,791 crore, the resolution stated. The government is going ahead with the flyover project at a time when it had failed to release funds to mitigate the suffering of people in general and farmers reeling under drought, in particular.

The government had also turned a deaf ear to the severe criticism from citizens, Opposition parties and environmentalists to the flyover project. Even the Bengaluru Vision Group constituted by the state government was not kept informed of the project. Besides its exorbitant cost, the flyover required felling of 812 trees and posed an environmental hazard, the resolution stated.
