The Vijayanagar police have booked a City Armed Reserve (CAR) constable on charges of reckless and drunk-driving after he crashed his four-wheeler into a motorist near Veeresh theatre on Magadi Road on Sunday.

The constable, Kumar, 40, a driver with CAR, was returning home at Dasarahalli after dropping off a senior officer at the CAR office when the incident occurred at 3.30 pm. He drove the vehicle haphazardly and hit a motorist, who escaped unhurt.

When a few drivers stopped Kumar and objected to his reckless driving, the latter abused them in foul language. The drivers thrashed him and informed the Vijayanagar traffic police who rushed to the spot and detained him.

Kumar yelled at senior cops and created a scene at the police station. The police took him to Victoria Hospital for medical tests. The medical report will confirm if he was drunk at the time of the accident, said the police. The constable has been booked on charge of drunk driving.
