Srinivasulu Reddy, the arrested co-owner of the Bellandur apartment which collapsed on Wednesday, killing six people, had reportedly created fake documents in an attempt to dupe his partners.

Reddy and his wife Prathima partnered Vinay Kumar Daggolu, T Lalith Kumar, T Ravi Kumar, J Josthana and Dr R Pradeep — all from Telangana — for the project. Reddy lured the five into investing in the project, saying they must tap the huge demand for paying guest digs in Bellandur and that the project would be enormously profitable. He assured them that they need not worry about the construction as he would personally monitor the work.

Substandard materials

Once the friends came on board, Reddy approached wholesalers, procured poor quality construction materials at substantial discounts and pocketed the money. He then created fake documents that showed he had not compromised on quality. His partners thus became convinced, a senior police officer said. Reddy, the only person to be arrested over the incident, had constructed some buildings in the city in the past and invested the earnings in the apartment project, the officer said.

Uncleared debris
Meanwhile, residents of Bellandur have alleged that the BBMP dumped the apartment debris on private land in the area, which is causing them inconvenience.BBMP officials clarified that trucks take about five hours to unload the debris at a unit at Kannur and return to Bellandur.

They said that the debris would be removed from the private land as early as possible. BBMP officials also said they filed a police complaint against the apartment owners.
Police, however, denied receiving any such complaint.
