Criminal Investigation Department (CID) sleuths have arrested a Nigerian national in a cheating case.

The suspect Christiana D, 28, was on the run after the Cyber Crime police registered a case against him in September 2015. The police recovered a laptop, two mobile phones and five SIMcards from him.

Christiana had come to Bengaluru on student visa. He was staying at TCPalya. He would shoot pictures of cars costing between Rs 10 and Rs 15 lakh parked in front of business establishments and showrooms. He used to post these images on an online classifieds platform OLX by quoting the price ranging from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, said the police.

An industrialist had parked his car at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) parking lot before going abroad. Christiana had shot the picture of the car and had posted it on the OLX offering it for Rs 5 lakh, added the police.

A man contacted Christiana wanting to buy the car. Christiana claimed that he was in Delhi and told him to see the car which he had parked at the KIA parking lot. Christiana asked him to transfer Rs 5 lakh to his account and he would hand over the car once he returned to the city. The man trusted Christiana and transferred Rs 5 lakh, said the police. "Christiana switched off his cellphone after he withdrew Rs five lakh. The man approached the Cyber Crime police and lodged a complaint. The police had also received five similar complaints," said a senior CID officer. The police registered a case against Christiana and raided his house at TCPalya in September 2015. He , however, managed to escape.

The police issued a lookout notice against Christiana. He landed at the Nigeria airport recently. The local police arrested him and handed him over to the Indian authorities. He was produced before a local court and the judge remanded him in judicial custody till October 19, added the police. Christiana had used documents of local residents for buying the SIM cards, said the police.
