Road work leads to traffic snarls in central business district

Commuters on most roads in the central business district were caught in vicious traffic jams on Saturday. The traffic police closed the stretch between Kengal Hanumanthaiah Double Road and Residency Road from Saturday morning for resurfacing work. The stretch will be reopened from Monday.

There was heavy congestion on Richmond Road, Richmond Circle, DoubleRoad, Raja Rammohan Roy Road, Mission Road, Hudson Circle, Siddalingaiah Circle, Hosur Road and Opera Junction.

The police deployed additional men to clear the traffic. "The closure had a cascading effect on roads till Bangalore Dairy.The police and the BBMP had informed the public about the closure in advance.The police used their social media platforms and flashed alerts requesting commuters to avoid the stretch," said a police inspector.

Vehicles moved slowly on LalBagh Road, Double Road, Hombegowda Nagar, Hudson Circle, JCRoad,Minerva Circle and surrounding areas, said the police.

The police requested commuters to avoid the stretch and take alternative routes on Sunday. One side of the Richmond Road flyover --- between Richmond Road and Double Road -- was closed for traffic on the night on September 1 as the BBMP took up a resurfacing project.

The stretch was recently reopened for vehicular movement.
