The offices of the Chief Minister, Bengaluru Police Commissioner and Bengaluru Traffic Police took to twitter to appeal to people, particularly Bengalureans, to maintain peace and not heed to rumours by troublemakers.

Continuous tweet updates were posted by all three offices with the hashtags - #Cauveryprotests, #Cauveryissue, soon after protests broke on Monday morning.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's letter to his Tamil Nadu counterpart Jayalalithaa and appeals by him, Home Minister G Parameshwara and Mysuru Police Commissioner to maintain peace, kept trending throughout the day.

"I appeal to Twitter users to not support any hate campaign. It is irresponsible and mischievous to support hate messages of any kind. Reports of attack on Kannadigas in TN is extremely distressing. I urge Kannadigas & Tamilians across the border to maintain peace," the CM tweeted. He also tweeted that a case had been registered against youngsters who attacked a youth for his post on social media, which triggered the riots. His office also posted his letter to the Tamil Nadu chief minister on the Cauvery issue.

Parameshwara tweeted, "Do not give scope for rumours, do not behave against law, please cooperate with police in maintaining public peace and order."

The Bengaluru Traffic Police appealed to people not to pay heed to rumours floating on WhatsApp pertaining to Cauvery protests. "Rely on @BlrCityPolice & @blrcitytraffic for authentic updates," it said.

Metro users were also alerted about the suspension of the train services, owing to the disturbances in the city. With almost the entire city shutting down following rumours of imposition of prohibitory orders, the traffic police kept reiterating that it was not true till the police imposed it in the evening.
