The alumni association of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) honoured three of its members in recognition of their extraordinary service to science.
The 'Distinguished Alumni Awards' were presented on Sunday to N Balakrishnan, Honorary Professor, Supercomputer Education and Research Centre, IISc in recognition of his role in building India's first supercomputer centre and the National Centre for Science Information at the institute. Prof Ajay K Sood from the Department of Physics was recognised for his contributions to Physics covering both quantum and soft condensed matter Physics. Prof Ramalingam Chellappa Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, University of Maryland, College Park, USA, was recognised for his contributions in developing statistical methods for pattern recognition and computer vision problems.
