A woman attempted suicide by consuming kerosene after her husband and his relatives pressured her to sleep with her father-in-law. The incident took place at Bakshi Garden in Cottonpet on Saturday night.
According to the police, Durga was married to Ramesh eight years ago and the couple have a seven-year-old son.
Three years ago, Durga fought with Ramesh over his conduct and went to her mother Seetha's house. A few days ago, after Ramesh convinced Durga to come home and she returned.
On Saturday, Ramesh and his father Melkote Raju, and their relatives, started harassing Durga. They even pressured her to sleep with Raju.
Durga, who could not bear the humiliation, attempted suicide.
"Durga's mother shifted her to Victoria Hospital. The doctors treated her and declared that she is out of danger. The Cottonpet police have registered a complaint, based on Durga's statement. Raju and Ramesh are being questioned," said a senior police officer.
A case has been registered at the Cottonpet police station and investigation is on.
