Thousands of passengers, particularly those who reached the city by trains were stranded at railway stations on Friday as they were unable to find transport to reach their destinations. The BMTC, the KSRTC and private buses, autorickshaw and cabs were off the roads. Even online aggregators such as Ola and Uber had suspended their services in response to the Karnataka bandh call given by the pro-Kannada organisations. Metro services were also suspended till evening.

Major bus stands such as Kempegowda bus station at Majestic, KSRTCsatellite bus station on Mysuru Road and Shantinagar bus stand wore a deserted look. A few passengers, who were unaware of the bandh were stranded at Kempegowda bus station.

Manish, a native of Uttar Pradesh, said he came to the city with his friends on Friday morning, to work as construction labourers in Electronics City. But they were stuck at city railway station (Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna station) due to the bandh.

He said a relative of his who works at a construction site in Electronics City, supplied them food from his home as all the eateries and restaurants were closed.

Some passengers had arrived at the railway station early in the morning to ensure that they do not miss their trains. Maheswari, a passenger, said her train was scheduled to leave the city railway station at 7 pm. However, reached the station well in advance with her two kids as cabs were not available from 6 am onwards.

Members of pro-Kannada organisations prevented the operation of yellow board cars (taxis) in the city. Activists in groups halted taxies on Hebbal road, ferrying passengers to Kempegowda International Airport. They even tried to damage the vehicles but police foiled their attempts.

The BMTC, the KSRTC and the Metro resumed their services around 6.30 pm. Bus services to Mysuru and Kodagu, which were suspended since Wednesday, too resumed. Autorickshaws, cabs and private buses started plying from around 6 pm.
