Pro-Kannada organisations continued to protest against the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. Activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) gathered at Rajarajeshwari Nagar main road in western Bengaluru around 6 am on Thursday, raising slogans against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and the Supreme Court. Some of them set fire to tyres to halt traffic on Mysuru Road. Thirty policemen rushed to the spot and doused the fire and appealed to the protestors not to disturb traffic.
"Once the protesters left the place, the fire was doused and traffic was restored. Vehicles were stuck on Mysuru Road for about 30 minutes," said a senior police officer.
Around 40 activists of Karnataka Kasturi Janapara Vedike staged a protest near the State Bank of Mysore circle and conducted a mock funeral of Jayalalithaa and Water Resources Minister M B Patil. Activists of Vatal Paksha performed 'Urulu Seve' seeking divine intervention to solve the Cauvery issue. Former MLA Vatal Nagaraj told reporters, "We want the entire state to support Friday's bandh and make it a success. The government should supply water to our people and immediately stop releasing water to Tamil Nadu."
