Continuing investigations into the abduction and extortion case registered against rowdy V Nagaraj in Hennur police station, investigating officials on Wednesday took Nagaraj and his two sons Gandhi and Shastri to their house in Srirampuram for spot inspection.

During the inspection, the police recovered a few lethal weapons. The police, who are questioning the three, are trying to ascertain Nagarajs role in the currency exchange racket. Enquiries so far revealed that Nagaraj initially used his contacts in Tamil Nadu to exchange the currency in small amounts.

Abduction and extortion
This was his tactic to lure more businessmen and realtors to approach him with demonetised notes. As people started approaching Nagaraj in large numbers, he started using his associates to blackmail the businessmen and even abducted and extorted cash from them.

"Nagaraj is still in denial mode, and is not admitting his crime. We have recorded his statements and are verifying them," said Ajay Hilori, deputy commissioner of police, East Division. Efforts are on to get more information from him before his custody is over, he said.
