A BMTCbus conductor was killed on the spot after a sand-laden truck mowed him down on the service road near Peenya police station on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Shivalingaiah, 55.
He hailed from Kenchaveeranahalli village in Gubbi taluk. He was a conductor with depot 22. According to the police, the accident occurred around 6.30 am when the bus (route 265 A) was heading from Kempegowda Bus Station towards Peenya 2nd Stage.
There was heavy rush on Tumakuru highway. Hence, the bus driver decided to ply on the service road to reach Basaveshwara bus stand. Shivalingaiah got down from the bus to instruct the driver to drive the bus in the reverse direction.
He fell down as the sand-laden truck that was heading to Tumakuru mowed him down. He sustained massive head injuries and was killed on the spot. The truck driver fled the spot.
