Tree activists and the members of Sarjapur Residents' Welfare Association (SRWA)have joined hands for saving four trees marked for felling for widening of Dommasandra-Sarjapur Circle. The operation to translocate these trees is in full swing and is expected to be completed by Sunday evening.
According to volunteers, around 80 trees had been chopped for the road widening project. The SRWA members took up task of the translocating four trees. Jayam Landscape, a Chennai-based company carried out excavation for shifting the trees and dug pits to relocate them. The residents have raised Rs 3 lakh for the exercise through crowd funding. Among the four trees that are being relocated, three will find a home at the Inventure Academy at Doddabommasandra, while one will be planted at a villa in Sarjapur, according to Raicy Mathew, the environment secretary for SRWA.
"The trees will be lifted with the help of a crane and placed in a horizontal position. Later they will be transported to their new location and placed in the pits dug for the purpose," she added. Joy VR, another member from SRWA, said that the personnel from Bescom, Forest department and the police were lending a helping hand in translocating the trees.
