A Kannada film director has been arrested for hiring rowdies to threaten a house owner at Govindarajnagar.

The suspect, Prakhyat alias Antony (33), is director of the movie 'Katriguppe Cutting Shop.' Based on a complaint filed by Purushottam, a resident of Rajajinagar, police have arrested Antony.

Purushottam and Antony studied together at Adarsh Film Institute about 10 years ago, but lost contact thereafter. Antony contacted Purushottam around three months ago and said he was making a film. He requested Purushottam to rent the latter's house in Govindarajanagar. Antony wanted to convert it into an office. Purushottam obliged him, said police.

"Antony indulged in illegal activities which angered local residents. After receiving complaints from them, I asked him to vacate the house, but he refused to do so," Purushottam stated in the complaint. "He said he would hire rowdies to attack me. Rowdies call and threaten me every day," he said, seeking protection. Antony has been booked under IPCSections 506 (criminal intimidation), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 488 (use of any such false mark).
