Pre-university students of the Commerce stream in the state will be using textbooks prepared by the National Council of Educational Research And Training (NCERT) from the academic year 2017-18.
The Department of Pre-University Education has prescribed NCERT textbooks for Business Studies, Accountancy and Economics subjects for first-year students from the coming academic year and for second-year students from 2018-19.
The books have been translated into Kannada, without altering the content, and they are currently being printed. The department has taken measures to procure textbooks in the English medium from NCERT through distributors and these will be available to students. Students may also download the textbooks from the department's website.
A circular issued by the department said the move was intended to help students to be better prepared for entrance examinations for professional colleges. A 15-day training in the new syllabus has been organised for Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics lecturers, beginning May 15. The government will pay them Rs 500 per day for training in vacation.
