A wheelie by a motorcyclist caused a freak accident on Old Madras Road, east Bengaluru, on Thursday night. The rider's female friend, who was on the pillion, lost her balance, fell off the two-wheeler and came under the front wheel of a tanker coming from behind.
Shiny Kiran K (in pic), a resident of Jayarajanagar in Halasuru, perished in the horrific accident that occurred opposite Gopalan Signature Mall around 8 pm. She was a IIPUC student at RJS College in Koramangala.
She and the male friend had set off on the ride from the college. They went to KRPuram first. Then they left for Halasuru and soon came on Old Madras Road.
"Eyewitnesses said the rider did a wheelie as he approached the Gopalan Signature Mall. Shiny lost her balance and fell down. She came under the front wheel of a tanker and died on the spot," DCP(East-Traffic)Abhishek Goyal told DH.
Not much is known about the rider. Police said he could be related to the girl. He apparently lost balance as he raised his bike's front wheel off the ground. Shiny was not wearing helmet. Shockingly, the rider just sped off after the accident. The tanker driver, too, abandoned the vehicle and ran away. Police have seized the tanker.
Police said they were che-cking the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)footage
of the busy road to the identify the rider as well as the driver.
