The Karnataka government is looking at the 'Goa model' to deport Nigerian nationals overstaying in Bengaluru, Home Minister GParameshwara told the Legislative Council on Thursday.

Answering a question by VSomanna of the BJP, he said drug peddling was "high" among Nigerians in Karnataka, especially in Bengaluru. After the expiry of their visa, some of them "deliberately" commit a petty crime, get bail and carry on with their illegal business, he said.
Parameshwara said police cannot deport them until the cases are adjudicated by the courts. In Goa, such cases are withdrawn and foreigners are deported.

"We are considering whether such a method can be followed in the state," he added.
According to Parameshwara, 31 Nigerians had been booked for drug peddling by the Bengaluru police from 2015 till date. Many of them had arrived in Karnataka as students.
He said 48 police stations had been identified where police had been sensitised to the modus operandi of the drug peddlers.
