Her house was razed by the BBMP during the demolition drive. But Shruthi Rakesh, a resident of Doddabommasandra, is still unaware as to which map the civic body had referred to.
Rakesh is among the several others who are caught in a web of confusion. They raised their voice against the civic body and officials who were responsible for creating illegal documents at the 'Demolished by Corruption' event organised by Namma Bengaluru Foundation on Saturday. She said that there was no mention of the existence of a stormwater drain where their commercial complex existed, even in the village map.
"The map that the BBMP is currently referring to shows the existence of a drain. It narrows down as it flows. How is something of that sort reliable?" she said. To this, Sajan Poovayya, senior advocate, clarified that the BBMP was referring to a new map.
Many recollected what happened on the fateful day as their houses were razed. Govindaraju, a resident of Doddabommasandra, was anguished with the behaviour of the officials. "They threw out a family with a Parkinson's patient," he said. "When we tried to talk to the commissioner, he said that if we went to the court, he would have the entire building demolished, instead of just the front portion," said Srikanth, a resident of Avani Sringerinagar. A few residents claimed the BBMPhad made certain "mysterious" markings in the area.
V Balasubramanian, former additional chief secretary, said if there are rains, the situation will turn worse. "The debris is blocking the flow of water. BBMP does not have funds to even get the debris cleared," he said.
MP Rajeev Chandrashekar said that the Foundation would move court so that all government officials and builders who cheated home buyers are identified and prosecuted and would also support citizens' right for compensation.
