A 17-year-old girl, who was trying to scare her parents that she would hang herself to death, died after she accidentally fell from the chair and the noose tightened around her neck.
The incident took place at her house in Bapujinagar, off Mysuru Road on Wednesday night. The police said Keerthana, a second PU student at a private college, was in love with a boy. Her parents objected to the affair and had warned her. They asked her to concentrate on her studies, Keerthana's father Ramesh told the police.
On Wednesday night, around 8.30 pm, she had a heated argument with her father who scolded her for coming home late from college. Keerthana went inside her room and tried to hang herself with a duppatta from a ceiling fan, in a bid to scare her parents.
While attempting suicide, she slipped from the chair and the noose tightened. Keerthana's parents rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead, the police added. The Byatrayanapura police have registered a case.
