A four-year-old boy succumbed to seizures after a hospital refused to treat him until money was paid, the police said. The incident took place in Peenya on Saturday.

The deceased is Yashu Kumar, who was living with his parents in Narayanapura, Peenya. The family is from Bihar. His parents work as labourers in the Peenya Industrial Area.

On Saturday morning, Kumar suffered seizures and was rushed to a private hospital near the house, where he was referred to a bigger hospital. They took him to another hospital in the industrial area where the doctors refused to treat Kumar until cash was paid, according to the police. The parents took the child to another private hospital in Rajajinagar where he was declared brought dead, said the police.

A senior police officer said, "We received information that the hospital refused to admit Kumar and the Peenya police visited the spot. By the time the boy could be treated, he was dead. We have taken Kumar's parents' statement and action will be taken against the hospital. For now, the name of the hospital cannot be disclosed."
