Man walks into trap, robbed of Rs 18 lakh

A man carrying Rs 18 lakh in 2,000-rupee and 100-rupee notes to swap them with scrapped bills for a commission was robbed by an armed gang near Dr Rajkumar Samadhi in Nandini Layout, north Bengaluru, on Thursday night, police said.

Pradeep Kumar, who runs a company that supplies study materials, had met one Suresh at a school. Suresh told Kumar that he knew some people who were willing to pay a commission to exchange scrapped notes. Kumar said he could arrange a lot of money in legal tender.

On Thursday, he told Suresh that he had Rs 18 lakh in 2,000-rupee and 100-rupee notes. Suresh asked him to meet him near Jalahalli. When Kumar reached there, he called him to a place near Dr Rajkumar Samadhi. Kumar reached the place around 8 pm. Suresh called again, asking him to walk to a desolate alley some distance away.

An unsuspecting Kumar literally walked into the trap. Some unidentified men appeared from nowhere, snatched the cash bag at a knifepoint and absconded.

Kumar tried calling Suresh but his mobile phone was switched off. He went to the Nandini Layout police station and filed a complaint.
