The high court on Friday granted anticipatory bail to Praveen Khandya, main accused in the kidnapping of a Chikkamagalur businessman and suicide of DySP Kallappa Handibag.
Khandya, divisional secretary, Vishwa Hindu Parishat, Shivamogga had moved the high court seeking anticipatory bail. Justice Ratnakala granted him advance bail.
Brain behind the crime
Khandya is the main accused in the kidnapping of businessman H M Tejas Gowda of Chikkamagalur. Initially, the jurisdictional DySP Handibag was suspected to be the brain behind the kidnap and extortion.
Three months after his suicide, the government gave a clean chit to Handibag. Later, it was found that Khandya was the main suspect and a case was registered against him.
