The ground-breaking ceremony for construction of the Kalasipalyam bus terminal was performed on Thursday by MLA, RVDevaraj, and NNagaraj Yadav, chairperson, BMTC.
The terminal will come up on over four acres and 13 guntas of land in 12 months. The land belonged to the BBMP, which handed it over to BMTC for the construction of the bus terminal. In return, BMTC gave BBMP 174 acres, 6 guntas of land on the outskirts. The five-storey structure will have separate platforms for BMTC, KSRTC and inter-state buses, lifts, BMTC offices, staff rest houses, subways, toilets, restaurants, parking space for 200 vehicles and a separate access to the Metro station.
A private firm had submitted a feasibility report. The tender was given on June 27, 2014. According to the initial project report, the project cost was estimated at Rs 143 crore, but it was brought down to Rs 60 crore considering BMTC's financial status.
