Two dogs attached to the dog squad of the City Armed Reserve (South), Bengaluru city, bagged the first prize at a national-level competition for police dogs.

Deepa (2) and Jonny (3) beat all other dogs and excelled in the competition held in Haryana. Dogs from eight states, including Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, participated in the competition held at the National Security Guard (NSG) grounds between December 1 and 8.

Deepa and Jonny excelled in each of the five rounds. Raw explosives were used for the competition.

The two dogs successfully detected explosives buried under the ground and in rooms in multi-storey buildings. They also exhibited skills in anti-sabotage checks for events of high-profile personalities.

Other criteria
The relationship of dogs with handlers (constables and head constables) and the control of handlers over the dogs were also taken into account before announcing the prizes. The dogs were trained by handlers Basavaraju Neeralgi, Jithendra Rathod and Ramesh.
Senior officers of the NSG felicitated the dogs and the handlers.
