To spread awareness on the side effects of plastic and encourage the use of alternative eco-friendly cloth bags, the 'Plastic Beda' campaign was launched by the Vasanthnagar Residents Welfare Association (VRWA) here on Thursday.
As many as 150 shops including eateries, hotels, among other establishments from Vasanthnagar and the surrounding areas in central Bengaluru participated in the campaign.

"Under the campaign, we have put up a poster at commercial establishments on ill effects of plastic and distributed eco-friendly bags with the support of Fortis Hospital and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara (BBMP).
"We plan to hold interactive sessions with traders and make them aware about the campaign," said Rajkumar Dugar, general secretary of VRWA.
Dr L Sreenivas Murthy, consultant, Internal Medicine, Fortis Hospital at Cunningham Road, said: "Plastic has many adverse impact on the health of people. There are many chemical additives, which are added in the manufacturing of plastic and people get exposed to it while using them."
BBMP officials, who were present on the occasion, explained the public on the rules and regulations governing the usage of plastic, alternative solutions to plastic, plastic usage and other related aspects.
