Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) did not operate any buses to Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. However, train services were normal while private operators had partly suspended their services.
"We have withdrawn all the 450 bus schedules in view of passenger safety. At present, about 110 KSRTC buses are parked at various depots in Tamil Nadu and the remaining vehicles are in Karnataka," a KSRTC official told DH. However, as the news of Jayalalithaa's death spread, there were hardly any passengers in the Tamil Nadu-bound buses.
However, a South Western Railway (SWR) official said that there was no change in the number of train passengers. The SWR operates around 100 trains which pass through Tamil Nadu from Karnataka.
K T Rajashekar of SRS Travels, who is also a member of Bus Operators' Confederation of India said private operators had scaled down their operations. "We have cancelled a lot of bus schedules. There is a significant drop in ridership" he added.
