The car driver of a land acquisition officer committed suicide by consuming poison at Maddur on Tuesday.
The deceased is Ramesh Gowda, son of Chikka Hombalegowda from Kadukottanahalli in the taluk. He worked as a driver with Bheema Nayak, a special land acquisition officer in Bengaluru.
Gowda was said to be privy to the assets 'amassed illegally' by the officer. The officer had reportedly warned the driver against tipping off sleuths of the Income Tax department and the Anti-corruption Bureau in the event of a raid. Upset over this, the driver took the extreme step, the police said.
