A trader at Jayanagar 4th Block Shopping Complex is helping small vendors get business by lending one of his card swipe machines.

Suresh K, who runs a stationery shop on the ground floor of the complex, decided to lend one of his three machines to small vendors who were losing business in the aftermath of demonetisation. Vendors selling vegetables, fruits, puja items and other products have been using the machine since November 10.

"These machines have been in my shop for the last 15 years. I thought why not help other traders as getting small-denomination notes is difficult now," said Suresh, who is also secretary of Jayanagar Shopping Complex Vendors' Association.

Fellow traders thanked him for saving them in the nick of time. Among the several beneficiaries is Prakash M K who sells curtains and home decoration items.

"At least 10 traders on the ground floor are using the machine. It has helped us save on business as getting change in small denominations isn't easy," he said. "Most of our customers are happy, too."

Santhosh, who runs a flower shop, said he had used the machine around eight times. "It is of great help," he added.

Suresh said daily transactions had shot up to Rs 15,000 a day. "I hand over the money to traders the next day or the same day. I am happy that traders have benefited."A trader at Jayanagar 4th Block Shopping Complex is helping small vendors get business by lending one of his card swipe machines.
