Rejuvenation work on Doddanekkundi lake in KR Puram will be completed in four months, complete with solar power generating units, to partly bear the maintenance cost of the water body.
UnionMinister for Statistics and Programme Implementation DVSadananda Gowda on Friday held a meeting with officials of various civic agencies including BBMP,BWSSB and BDA to discuss rejuvenation of the lake. A total of Rs 10 crore has been earmarked for the rejuvenation of the lake, which falls in Bengaluru North Parliamentary constituency, represented by Gowda in the Lok Sabha.
Gowda told reporters after the meeting that the development of the lake had been pending for around 10 years. Recently, encroachments on the lake bed had been cleared. Work on preventing sewerage from entering the lake will be taken up soon.
He said representatives of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board had visited the lake recently and fencing of the periphery of the water body will commence from Saturday.
In an unique venture, solar panels will be installed near the lake to generate power, which will be sold to partly bear the maintenance cost of the lake. "It is estimated that maintenance will cost around Rs 1.5 crore a year," Gowda said. He said local residents' welfare associations will be involved in the development of the lake.
