The HAL police recently arrested a 26-year-old techie for uploading obscene photographs of a woman on social media.
Boranchi Raju, a native of Hyderabad, posed as an officer of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), and managed to get her email ID and password.
He was working as a software professional in a private company in Begumpet, Hyderabad. Based on a complaint filed by 25-year-old Shilpa (name changed), who is also a software professional working for a major company in Bengaluru, Raju was arrested on November 18. The victim is a paying guest in Marathahalli, said the police.
On September 7, Shilpa approached the HAL police station and lodged a complaint stating that someone had uploaded her morphed obscene images on social media websites and had even sent them to her fiance and family members to create discord, added the police.
The police took the help of the Cyber Crime police and tracked the IP address to an office in Begumpet. The details of the person who had uploaded the morphed images were gathered. Following this, Raju was arrested from his office, said the police.
"During investigations, it was found that Raju and Shilpa graduated from the same engineering college. While they were studying, both of them interned in a private company in Hyderabad. Raju had a liking towards Shilpa and had even proposed to her.
Shilpa, however, declined and asked him not to trouble her," said a senior police officer.
"Meanwhile, in 2016, Shilpa took up a job in Bengaluru. Raju, who could not get over Shilpa, managed to get her mobile number and started harassing her despite her warnings. Around two months ago, Raju, posing as an IB officer, called Shilpa and told her they had information that she faced a security threat and asked her for a few details. Shilpa gave away her personal email IDand the password," added the officer.
Raju used to log into Shilpa's email IDand kept track of her activities. He found that Shilpa's wedding was arranged with her colleague. "Raju grew furious and used Shilpa's photographs and morphed the images. He created another email IDand uploaded obscene images and even sent them to Shilpa's fiance and members of his family. The incident came to light when Shilpa's fiance showed her the photographs," said the officer.
Photos from her laptop
While Shilpa and Raju were interning, her laptop developed a technical snag and she asked Raju to get it repaired. Raju managed to copy all her photographs from the laptop.
He later used the same photographs and morphed them and sent them to her fiance and her family members. Raju was using eight mobile phones and used to call her from different numbers, said the police.
