8 held for corporator's abduction

The Srirampuram police recently arrested an eight-member gang for abducting Okalipuram ward corporator Shivaprakash on September 12.

According to the police, the accused are Naveen, 24, Charan Raj, 24, Nagaraj, 26, Jayanth, 25, Shivshankar, 26, Mani, 32, Suresh, 28 and Kumar, 26.They have recovered an airgun and weapons used to commit the crime from them.

The police said Shivaprakash was going for a walk around 6 am on September 12 when the gang abducted him. They took him to an isolated place on Magadi Road. They assaulted him and snatched his gold chain. They took him to Nayandahalli and left him in a deserted area and fled the spot. Shivaprakash managed to reach home and informed his friends and lodged a complaint with the Srirampuram police.

On September 20, the accused called up Shivaprakash and asked him to pay them Rs 5 lakh in cash. Shivaprakash informed the police about the call which was traced and Suresh was arrested. Based on information provided by him, the rest of them were arrested, the police said. Suresh had campaigned for Shivaprakash during the BBMP election. After Shivaprakash won the elections, Suresh noticed that he had a huge amount of money.
