Condemning the Union government's decision to demonetize Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist), Bangalore district, organised a protest demonstration at Mysore Bank Circle on Wednesday.
Addressing protesters, K Uma, state committee member of SUCI (C) said, "Just 5% of total black money is in liquid cash form. The rest is stored in the form of real estate, illegal hoardings, foreign accounts etc. With the new rule, the Central government has waged a war against this 5% and has let go the rest 95% of black money. This surgical strike is directed against the crores of daily wage labourers, peasants, middle class strata who play an insignificant role in creation of black money," she said.
"If the government genuinely wishes to curb the menace of black money, it should have first punished 1,195 Indians whose illegal wealth is stashed in Switzerland whose names were recently revealed by the France government or it should have put behind bars 500 and odd Indians whose black wealth is stored in Panama.
"These big sharks are let off the hook and street vendors, fruit and vegetable sellers, autorickshaw drivers, farmers, rural labourers, crores of labourers of the country are made to bear the brunt of the sin caused by corporate houses," she added.
