Woman dies, husband absconding

Police are on the lookout for an advocate who went missing soon after his wife succumbed to burns at St Johns Medical College on Wednesday.

Police identified the advocate as Nagaraj, suspected of abetting his wife Sridevi's suicide. Nagaraj had married Sridevi, 30, a native of Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh, eight years ago.The couple have no children and were staying at K PAgrahara.

According to the police, Sridevi sustained severe burns after a gas stove exploded at her house on August 3. Nagaraj rushed her to a nearby hospital. Sridevi was later admitted to St Johns Medical College. She failed to respond to treatment and succumbed to burns on Tuesday, said the police.

The victim's father lodged a complaint against Nagaraj for forcing Sridevi to commit suicide. Before dying, Sridevi had blamed Nagaraj for the incident. Police registered a case against Nagaraj for abetting Sridevi's suicide, said the police.

Girl mowed down

A five-year-old girl was killed on the spot after she was run over by a tanker in Chikkajala on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Divya (in pic), a resident of Vinayakanagar on Bagalur Road. Divya's father Tirupathaiah died two years ago. Her mother Nagalakshmi was a labourer.

According to the police, Divya was accompanying her aunt Padma to a nearby school around 1.45 pm. Padma was heading to the school to pick up her son.

Tirupath, the water tanker driver, who was driving out of RMZ Pawava Villa, failed to notice Padma and Divya on the road while entering the road. He failed to control the tanker which mowed down Divya. She was killed due to head injuries, said the police.

The police arrested Tirupath and seized the tanker.
