Speeding car mows down student

A 23-year-old student was killed in a road accident near Sahakaranagar Main Road late on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Balaji Prakash, a final-year degree student at a private college, and a resident of Sahakaranagar.

On Friday, around 11.30 pm, Prakash was returning home after meeting his friends near the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

As he reached Sahakaranagar Main Road, a car coming from the opposite direction collided with his bike. Prakash sustained severe injuries and was found lying on the road, said the police.

Passersby informed the Yelahanka traffic police, who shifted him to a nearby private hospital. Around 2 am, he failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the car, Avish, a private college lecturer, was arrested and his vehicle was seized.

Avish's blood samples were sent for examination to check if he was driving under the influence of alcohol, added the police.

A case has been registered at the Yelahanka traffic police station in this regard.
