The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) foresees a very grim future of Bengaluru by 2031, for which it has started the process of preparing a master plan.

At a review meeting convened by Bengaluru Development Minister K J George and Additional Chief Secretary to Urban Development Department Mahendra Jain, BDA officials said the city's population may cross two crore by 2031. The water requirement will be about 50 thousand million cubic (tmc) feet per day, while the garbage generation will be about 18,000 tonnes per day, up from the present 4,000 tonnes per day.

The infrastructure may crumble due to the population migrating to the city from various parts of the country. Keeping these challenges in mind, the Revised Master Plan-2031 should be prepared, the officers told the minister.

"No decision has been taken because it was only a review meeting," said BDA commissioner Rajkumar Khatri.

During the meeting, George reviewed the progress in the construction of the Hennur flyover and the development of the Mallathahalli lake. BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad was also present at the meeting.

Public consultation
The BDA will once again hold a public consultation on the Revised Master Plan-2031. However, the date has not been finalised. The BDA had called for public consultation on April 29, 2015, which was mired in controversies because people were asked to file their suggestions or objections at a very short notice and there was no provision for giving acknowledgments to those giving suggestions. Khatri said whatever was done one-and-a-half years ago was not public consultation.
