The flyover near Kittur Rani Chennamma Circle (near Deve Gowda petrol bunk, Padmanabhanagar) is likely to be ready for public use by December-end.

The BBMP started the Rs 36-crore project in December 2013 to ensure a signal-free junction. As per the schedule, the civic body was to complete the project in April 2016.

BBMP engineer-in-chief M R Venkatesh told DH that a delay in land acquisition dragged the project on for an additional seven months. "The land acquisition is completed and we are confident of finishing the project by this year-end," he said.

BBMP engineers associated with the project said once this project is ready, Palike will take up construction of an underpass near Food World on the same stretch of road, at Kathriguppe. The underpass will be constructed at a cost of Rs 17.82 crore. Already, work on another underpass near Hosakerehalli is underway and it is nearing completion.

The work for the construction of the underpass near Food World was supposed to start on September 1, 2015, and get over by March 1, 2017, but it is yet to start.

"Due to heavy traffic, we could not take up work on the underpass at Kathriguppe. The traffic police denied us permission for traffic diversion, saying construction of three grade separators at the same time will lead to chaotic traffic. Hence, we could not start the project," said an engineer.

These grade separators at Nayandahalli, Hosakerehalli, Food World, Kittur Rani Chennamma Circle and Kadirenahalli are part of the proposed signal-free corridor from Silk Board Junction to Nayandahalli. Already, a long stretch of the corridor from Nayandahalli to Yeshwantpur has been completed.

The total cost of the signal-free corridor project from Silk Board Junction to Nayandahalli is Rs 153.42 crore. The flyover near Kittur Rani Chennamma Circle (near Deve Gowda petrol bunk, Padmanabhanagar) is likely to be ready for public use by December-end.
